Man with Narcissistic Personality Disorder Takes to TikTok to Educate Others About Narcissists
We’ve all been narcissistic at one time or another, and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing, according to Psychology Today - a little bit of the trait can even be healthy. However, for those at the other end of the spectrum with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD), it can negatively affect one’s capacity to connect with others or admit fault. However, it only affects an estimated 1 percent of the population, making it a rare disorder.
One man named Lee Hammock is making waves on TikTok for using his diagnosis of NPD for good and educating others on how those with the disorder think. It’s rare for a narcissist to be self-aware in this way, which makes Lee’s honesty and vulnerability particularly refreshing. Lee says, “The point of these videos is to help bring awareness from the other side of the narcissistic abuse spectrum. All my videos give perspective on why many narcissists do what they do and the possible different reasons behind them. The victims and survivors get validation and the narcissists (those that are willing) get to see that you can get help and that you are not alone."
For those who have been emotionally abused by someone with NPD, Lee’s online presence is meant to validate their feelings and experiences as well as provide insight into why someone with NPD functions the way that they do. Funnily enough, Lee has admitted that the attention he gets on his videos feeds his ego, but it’s clear from the comments under his content that he’s helping countless others deal with their own diagnoses or the aftermath of narcissistic abuse.
