College Survival Guide
The school year is quickly approaching and it can be both an exciting and nerve-wracking time. We at MUUD wanted to create a “College Survival Guide” sharing our tips and tricks for a successful school year, especially for all of the incoming freshman.
Making Friends Edition:
- Treat your roommate like your home base. Go out together so that you always have a buddy, even if you guys don’t end up being close in the long term.
- Say yes to new things: Go to events within your first few weeks that you wouldn’t normally go to and be friendly to everyone you meet! You never know what will happen.
- Join clubs and get active on campus. Whether that be joining a club sports team or a fun club, go to interest meetings and then after you get to feel the clubs out choose what suits you best.
Academic Success Edition:
- Don’t take too many classes your first semester, this will allow you to slowly transition into academic life and get more situated as college is a huge change from high school many ways.
- Get organized, use apps like google calendar or notion to schedule out all your events and assignments for the semester. Don’t let the deadlines creep up on you.
- Make friends in your classes. Study groups are great not only for accountability purposes and making sure you go to class but sometimes your friends may be able to teach you something in a way the professor is unable to.
- Don’t be afraid to reach out for help. Asking for help can be scary but it is a key to long-term success. Reach out to professors for guidance and attend office hours, TAs are also a great resource. Many universities also have tutoring available for students who need extra guidance.
Good luck to all of the students out there, let’s make it a successful year.
